Java Web Application with HTML & CSS

We started our project to build our UI with HTML and CSS. We don't know how will we incorporate our codes with JAVA web app and connect it to MYSQL workbench database. Where should we start? What are the things we should do to use our HTML/CSS codes. We're new in this field. Thanks
