I am new to web development and I am working on an art portfolio website for an artist as a small project. I want to have the main page showcase this person's artwork. Right now, there are 15 images on the front page. The issue I am having is the webpage takes forever to load.
As of right now, I have converted all images to jpg and I have made the images as small as possible for what I want to accomplish. This did speed up the loading time but it is still not ideal. I had the idea to try loading each image individually with a script but I don't know how to go about this. The format of the home page is very simple. It has 3 rows and 5 columns of images as of right now. In the future, there will be more images added so I need a solution that can work in the long run.
Another idea I had was to load a poorer quality version of each image first so the home page actually shows the user each image then as the real images finish loading they would replace the poor quality ones. Not sure if this would work it is just an idea.
If you need pictures of the home page or my HTML/CSS files just let me know and I can throw them in this post. I did not think they were necessary for this question though. Any help is appreciated as I am still just a beginner at web development. Thank you!
