When I use a mac, it doesn't generate a link to the browser window using the index

When I create a new file folder on my windows PC, and create an index.html file it automatically generates a link to the web browser titled "index" so I can see my changes I am making to the website. However I recently switched to Mac and my computer is not creating this link to the browser window. Is there a setting or something I need to change in my Mac computer or is there a different way to access it?
