Question about database oriented approach

So basically there exits two approaches- file oriented design and database oriented design.My question is whether a noSql database like mongoDb counts as a database oriented design. I am sure it does, this is just to be sure Or know if I am mistaken.

Edit- my college wants me to build a project using database oriented approach. Will it count if I use a Nosql database instead of a relational database.
