is there a way to automatically open a tab when a certain link is clicked?

2 links take me to the same page on my website, but I'd like one to open up a tab on that page that wouldn't otherwise be open.

I.E. The profile page has the main content set to appear initially, if you are on the home page and click Subscriptions I'd like the profile page to load up with the subscriptions div now '''display:block;''' and the main content '''display:none;''' without having to load up a separate page that is identical to the profile page.
