How to achieve a take-note functionality in an electron-react app?

When you open an e-book like using Apple's Books app, you could select a portion of text, then you could choose to highlight it. The app will also be able to remeber your notes.

If you want to achieve the similar functionality in an electron-react application, how could you do it? And it should not change the original ebook content though.
