Is it possible to define my own data attribute names with Jquery?

I am wondering if its possible to define my own data attributes with Jquery. For example Angular has their own data attributes like ng-app="", ng-include="", etc. Can i define my own data attribute too? (not using XML which i've already done, but with html files.
