google map and heat-map layer with a web API

Can someone let me know if it is possible to build a google map with an heat map layer from a web API without any rendering on any views or web forms but gathering it from an http request from code behind and saving it as an image?

If is possible when can I gather some information to get started? The google APIs all assumes that we will render the map somewhere as far as I can see.
