Where to start for a website and mobile app using same database

I've a few projects in mind but actually don't know where to start researching. I'm planning a website and mobile app which uses same database. It'll be a common example but I can say like facebook. I know they use React, but not sure what kind of database should I use.

I'm good at Frontend, PHP, JS and eager to learn new coding languages.
