Thymeleaf does not support Chinese?

I am new to Thymeleaf and soon shocked that this so-called de-facto standard template engine does not support Chinese ??? The Chinese contents will show up correctly under spring self-contained HTML template engine. However, as I switched to use Thymeleaf while keeping everything unchanged in the html doc, I got a mess of characters.

** update ** There are Chinese characters in my HTML template. I would like to know how I can let them show correctly in the browser with Thymeleaf as the HTML template renderer.
