Make website to use java as back-end [on hold]

So I recently learnt about Spring MVC that you can use java as back-end for a web app.

But Spring seems very very confusing for me and I saw some developments ain't that simple.

So I would like to know:

I want to use java for my site. It's a blog website that only gets data from a database and show them. So I want like a java class with methods. and call the methods into my .jsp file

Can I do it with Spring something that simple?

Can I do it with just pure java without Spring etc?(Recommended if possible)
