How does Heroku web console works?

I want to understand that how does heroku provide access to dynos from browser based CLI. I read about few of the tools like GoTTY, TermGate etc. but I would like to understand its working.. how it connect to dynos and allow us to access terminal under a certain user.

Any reference to this would be highly appreciated.
