Would like to create a website that just creates an outline and divide into small squares or pixels to upload image

I am looking more for direction and technology to achieve this from experts. I am a java developer but do not have much idea on the UI.

I would like to create a website that does the following:

1. Create an outline of any shape.
2. Divide that shape into smaller squares or pixels where one can click on that pixel and upload an image.
3. After uploading hovering over that pixel can show the image uploaded and other information.
4. Should have the ability to zoom in and zoom out.

This isn't a school project. I would like to learn and want to do this for learning purposes.

I did a google search but didn't find any relevant answers so looking for some direction here.

Please provide your valuable inputs.
