Is it advisable to zip folder structure in browser using javascript and send it to server?

I have a web application where I want to upload folder structure to server from browser. I am thinking about creating a zip file using JavaScript and upload it to server. Is this advisable? Will it work for large folder size? If yes what is proper way to do it?
