Should a #modal window create a new entry in browser history

Not a technical question but more a question of usability.

I wonder what everyone else thinks about whether a modal window should create a new entry in browser history or not?

Lets say the modal is something like a Contact-us page it seems to me that should have a new history entry but what about if it is just a status window I assume that would not justify a new history entry.

What does everyone else think about this?
