Do I need to master Javascript to learn Typescript? [on hold]

To learn Angular 2 from the official website, I realized I had to learn Typescript. I think it must be recommended by the official for some reason, such as being more powerful and efficient? I don't know. I really want to make awesome websites, but right now I think I am not that skilled in that. I know Javascript is a must that I should get the hang of.. So is it too early for me to learn Typescript? I just now wrote some code of TS for beginners and found that maybe learning both of them at the same time is somehow confusing me. It's not that I know little about Javascript. As a matter of fact, occasionally I need to write Javascript code for my web applications, but not that complex apps and I never heavily utilize the power of js. (BTW, I am now a third year undergraduate student in computer science.)
