Host my sites on a VPS which I setup a web server on or on a VPS hosting company?

I have around 5-10 fairly big websites which I want to have hosted on the same server. They get around 10 unique visitors per hour each and each site is very static, pretty much just some text and a few pictures.

Currently I host these websites on a 2 GB RAM Windows 2012 VPS with XAMPP. I have noticed my websites are sometimes slow as syrup and sometimes they are fast.

1. Should I buy my own VPS (and install a web server on it) or buy VPS hosting from a hosting company which will result in a higher price than buying my own VPS?

2. Is there a difference in load speed on a SSD VPS and a "normal" (HDD I assume) VPS?

3. Is it a bad idea to host my site over XAMPP on a Windows VPS?
