JavaScript Date - Months changing across timezones?

I'm doing some calculation by comparing current time against a set of dates available. Using getMonth() gives me the months with January as 0, in GMT +530 (IST). But if I change the timezone to GMT -600 (MDT), January appears as 11. How do I normalize this?
