How websites detect applications on Mobile and open them?

Let's say I'm searching for something, for example, "Medium" on Google using my mobile, and I want to open it. When I click on the link, the website detects the application of Medium that I've already had on my mobile and opens it. How did this happen? Or What's the logic behind this?
