trying to hook up two users using generated code

I'm working on a website called code arena where two players play against each other. The main page I have to options one is called (create room and generate code) and the other called (join by code) but I couldn't figure out how I'm going to make user#2 join user#1 by code that generated randomly? I did a lot of research but didn't find anything helpful.
