Recover the value of javascript variables

I have a website that includes several javascript variables. I would like to create a firefox extension that retrieving the value of a variable and which is automatically entered in an input field. I can recover the value of the variable with the debugger of firefox developer edition but I do not know how to recover it with the script js of my extension. Could you help me ?
