web: Web link in Word document opens two browser windows/tabs simultaneously

We have a web link for a downloadable file from our website. When the link is triggered from word document, it is opening on two tabs instead of one tab.

Same is already discussed in Microsoft support forum (below link). But there is no valid answer till.
