SASS - jQuery closest like for parent match selector? Possible?

If I am on a descendant of a descendant and so on and need to target say grandgrandgrandparent:hover grandchild(me) {} which is actually '.mainbar:hover grandchild' {}

Is that possible? In jQuery one can use closest('.mainbar') to get to a specific parent.
