How does Domain name is mapped to an IP address if that has multiple server at multiple locations

Google has multiple servers at multiple locations. So when I enter Google in the address bar of my web browser, how does the DNS map this name to the corresponding IP address. Since google has multiple servers at multiple locations and every location will have an IP address, so how this mapping happens. Is a Load balancer used first? Could someone please explain me how this happens.
