I want to switch jobs and would like to know where to start in software development.
I purchased 3 courses on Udemy, during a sale they had several weeks ago. I also got a fourth course for free. I purchased The Web Development Bootcamp which can be found at Udemy and was created by Colt Steele. I purchased iOS 10 & Swift 3: From Beginner to Paid Professional which can be found at Udemy and was created by Mark Price. I purchased Master Android 7 App Development With Java which can be found at Udemy and was created by Tim Buchalka and Jean-Paul Roberts. I got Learn Ruby on Rails from Scratch for free and it can be found at Udemy and was created by Eduonix Learning Soultions.
I asked a similar question on Reddit on the r/learnprogramming section and was advised to start with web development.
There is another web develop course course called The Complete Web Developer Course 2.0 that can be found at Udemy and this course is by Rob Percival. It is currently on sale. It is slightly more popular than the course by Colt Steele.
I started reading and listening to some podcasts on learning to code, like CodeNewbie and StartHere. They seem to like Ruby on Rails. Should I start with either the Colt Steele course or the Rob Percival course above, or should I start with a Ruby on Rails course?
There is The Complete Ruby on Rails Developer Course found at Udemy. This course is by Rob Percival and Mashrur Hossain and it has good reviews and is the most popular course on Ruby on Rails. It is currently on sale.
I will just focus on 1 course at a time. Which skills would be more in demand in the current environment? I would like to leave my current job in the near future and increase my chances of finding new work.
Btw, I have some prior knowledge of C, CSS, HTML, Java, JavaScript, and PHP. I have also done database work with MS Access and MySQL. My knowledge of all of these things is very limited and I have not touched most of them in over 10 years in college.
Thank you for your time and for any help.
