How does facebook send notifications

Hi Does someone know how does facebook send a notification to multiple users when a user comments a post for example.. I know they are using long polling but I want to know how do they proceed to send notif to 2000 members of a group every time a new post was published. Do they make 2000 INSERT queries to the database? I apologize for my bad english, I'm french ^^' Thank's!
