Dynamic web project with DB

I'm looking for the easiest technologies to implement a car sharing web site for an university project. We need: -java implementation of the core -web interface -a database

We thought to use JSP, Tomcat and ActiveJDBC, but it looks like not working well. Any other ideas? Hibernate with JSF is fast to learn and implement? ActiveWeb? Thanks in advance
