Why would Chrome render improperly?

I am getting a number of render issues with text and scrolling. Why would this happen?

The list displays a series of items with images and text, in a larger complex application. As you scroll through the list, this rendering problem shows up on several items. On long hover over the image, we fetch a higher res image that replaces the src of the given image.
