page layout issues: Images, background image and Issue with getting navmenu to stretch the entire width of the page

this is my first post here. So please be gentle with me. I recently graduated with a certificate in web design.

But it wasnt very in depth, so I am basicly teaching myself because the online course left alot of holes everywhere.

The first thing I noticed I did wrong when I uploaded the website was that I made the width 1386px instead of 1024px.

I resized everything, then I went through my image names and simplified them. That hasnt worked yet.
