How to tell if my web app is being loaded from the server?

I have an app that is loaded server side from the outside but once inside the app and going through its different states the client takes over and renders everything. This is done for SEO purposes. My question is, is it sufficient to set a flag on some service after the first time it loads to signal from here on out its client side. Or am I missing something important?
