Bootstrack col spanning - Joomla + Helix ii

I cannot get this to work - I feel myself dying inside. Why in the world wont this format correctly?

That looks perfect. When I copy and paste under it for the same effect on another row it becomes all pushed apart. This picture shows what is happening.

I've tried everything I can think of. Adding space, adding extra rows, resizing, the works. Now I am going to try turning the rows into modules and see the outcome.
