Ruby on Rails or Node?

I know this is apples to oranges here, but hear me out. I have been doing front end web development for about a year and a half now and I know a good some of javascript, I want to dig deeper now into the game and learn some server side programming and also how to create web apps fast but not large scale which attracted me to Ruby on Rails...

I guess my question is should I stick with JavaScript and dig into that with node, express, sockets etc etc. Or should I give Ruby on Rails a go and try something new..

My intentions are to develop apps fast personally and financially for other people or small businesses but I also want to be relevant in the future and ahead of the curve..

Please Help!
