Using Spring for web game

I want to ask for your opinions.

I am currently new at Web Development(working with Java EE in job), so my priority now is to develop myself in this field. Unfortunately, there are no challenges and projects, which can help me with this(maintain legacy code, no code quality, no code-reviews... very bad, i know). So what i want for now - learn a bit and look for a new job.

So I decided to make a little project with friend. It will be a web-based game. I want to learn things, that will help me to find job, like: Spring, Hibernate, Java EE etc. I thought that I can use Spring for backend, to get some knowledge about this framework.

Our configuration for now is:

• backend: RESTful services(json) in Spring(using Spring Boot)
• front: React

So the question is: Is it really bad idea to use Spring here, as some people told me? I know there could be better choices, but i want to learn this framework and use the Spring in future job.

PS. Currently thinking about Jersey too, but i don't see it in job offers.
